Fiction books are stories made up by the author, therefore are not real. This is the opposite of non-fiction books which are real events, facts or stories. A good way to remember this is by telling yourself that the word fiction is a synonym for "fake", so fiction means fake and non-fiction means not fake.

Fiction books can be broken up into many categories. The most notable are adventure, fantasy, horror, literature, romance, and science fiction. These categories are relatively even in popularity. Using the Google Trends tool, romance books is the most popular category, while literature books is the least popular by a slight margin.

As a whole fiction books have seen an increase in popularity over the past two years, starting in 2007. Prior to that fiction books were on a downward trend. Nobody is really sure what changed in 2007, but the recent trends are good news for author and book lovers.

The United States searches "fiction books" the most on Google, followed by India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, then the United Kingdom. The top cities are Mumbai (India), Denver (US), St Louis (US), Chicago (US), Washington DC (US), and Philadelphia (US) in that order.
